Computer Classes for Seniors

 It's Never Too Late

Learning to use a computer is simply one more skill to add to everything you already know how to do. Computer education classes are fun and can greatly enrich your everyday life.

Technology is advancing at a rapid pace, and we rely more and more on computers for everything from cooking to planning vacations. An understanding of computer basics is invaluable, that's where NCNC comes in by providing free, computer training to help you get started. Below is a list of our core programs, ask about other programs that are not listed.

ADULT COMPUTER TRAINING

Adult computer training introduce students to computers, the Internet, keyboarding and basic productivity applications. These courses prepare students to create documents, presentations and spreadsheets, and advanced techniques may be covered as well.

List of Common Courses

  • Introduction to Computers this course teaches students how computers work and covers the basic terminology. Students will learn how to start up and shut down programs, organize and save files, use a mouse and connect to a printer.

  • Windows Explore learn how to manage your files. Explore is the file management application in Windows. Windows Explorer can be used to navigate your hard drive and display the contents of the folders and sub-folders you use to organize your files on your hard drive. (A great class for seniors also)

  • Microsoft Word beginning thru advanced In this course you will learn word processing basics such as how to create, edit, save and print through hands-on projects. 

  • Microsoft Excel beginning thru advanced This  course will introduce you to the Excel Spreadsheet.

  • Microsoft PowerPoint beginning thru advanced You will use this presentation graphics program to create, edit, and enhance existing presentations with slides.

  • Keyboarding is one of the most valuable skills you can have. Learn to type without looking at the keys! Everyone can benefit from this course which is designed for the beginner, but will help more experienced keyboarders brush up on his or her skills.

  • Microsoft Access beginning thru advanced In this course you will learn the foundation skills needed to make you successful in intermediate and advanced Access.

  • Web Design In this course you will learn the basics of Web design and hand coding with HTML and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).

TEEN TECH 13-18

DIGITAL MEDIA & ANIMATION

Learn how to use digital technology in your documents, programs and software applications. Edit and enhance photos, images, and graphics for print and the web. You will work with the digital camera, digital video and various digital software. Insert video into your PowerPoint presentations, Explore YouTube, upload videos, Media player. Hands on application and project based lessons make this a fun class. The Digital Media program is designed for middle and high school students to learn about filmmaking and how to be an influencer through digital media and content creation. 

Introduction to screen writing. This is a great hands on course for teens and adults that are interested in creating short videos that tell a story. You will learn the basic elements of compelling storytelling and how to use them in your own writing. Examine how good screenplays use character, conflict, and dialogue to connect with an audience

Storyboarding for Animation video. Animation is designed on storyboards. Students learn basic animation theory and mechanics, develop observational and drawing skills and study the fundamental principles of character design, layout and storyboarding in this class. Storyboards are created for each animated character and a rough version of the animation is put together. This practice is called animatics.

Video and Audio Production this is a great hands on class that will introduce the student to creating videos using the cell phone, tablet and video camera. The student will learn about lighting to set the scene, various camera angles,  add sound to the video and work with the green screen. 

Video Editing If you want to learn how to edit video & create your own content (for whatever purpose - YouTube, Online Courses, Social Media Videos, etc...), this Course is perfect for you. It'll take you through all the basics you need to know to get started to all the most advanced things you can do. Video Editing For Beginners enable you to combine and edit video clips, add effects, transitions, titles and other elements to build a completed video project.

Final Project putting it all together! Student will create a final video project demonstrating what they have learned from the course. Students complete projects that focus on image and sound production and shot design. A focus in basic screenwriting techniques and strategies central to storytelling. Throughout the program students work collaboratively and individually using technologies and writing exercises to develop critical skills as a viewer, maker and reader.

NCNC KID TECH 6-12

STEM activities (Science Technology Engineering and Math) are all the buzz in education. Kids love finding out how things work through fun, hands-on projects and NCNC instructors love knowing that they’re preparing students for their techy future.

Coding for kids. This class is created specifically for 8-to-12-year-olds. Students use a visual programming language made up of bricks that they drag to the workspace to animate sprites. Various types of bricks trigger loops, create variables, initiate interactivity, play sounds, and more.

The 3D Stop Motion Animation course is designed to Encourage, Empower, Educate and Entertain kids through interactive projects that are both fun and creative. These projects are designed to improve communication and literacy while channeling creativity and imagination.

 

COMPUTERS FOR SENIORS

Despite the growing trend towards a more computer-savvy population, many older adults fall behind younger generations when it comes to technology adoption. Thankfully, seniors can find computer classes at NCNC to learn how to use technology and keep up with the younger generations. With just a few lessons, you can go online and successfully use a computer in no time.  

Seniors and the Internet tasks like paying the bills, shopping and communicating with others can be done with ease online. Instead of going to the grocery store or mall, you can order groceries and clothes online, which helps you avoid a big hassle. You can also pay her bills online, which could be more secure than putting a check in the mail.

Introduction to Computers learn the basics about computers in a relaxed and comfortable setting. This course includes word processing, email, Internet surfing and other basic computer concepts.

Windows 10 Learn the beginning skills needed to efficiently navigate and use the Microsoft Windows operating system on your computer. Manage apps, personalize the Windows environment .

Keyboarding  for seniors is a self paced class. Learn to type without looking at the keys! Everyone can benefit from this course which is designed for the beginner, but will help more experienced keyboarders brush up on his or her skills.

Seniors can also enroll in any of the adult tech classes.

At NCNC our goal is to give the student a full service experience. It;s more than teaching a new skill or helping enhance old ones, it's about preparation, education, and training on achieving future employment goals.

Need a resume you can use the computer to create your resume. Search for job openings and training programs on the computer with the Internet or by traditional ways! Check us out for your next job search.

Be prepared for any interview by knowing yourself, knowing your target industry, knowing the organization, and being able to talk about the value you bring. Be able to answer: “Tell me about yourself” (which means tell me about your professional self), and “Why should I hire you?”
